Pas toujours facile la vie d’artiste… On se prépare pendant des mois… On peaufine, on emballe, on fait les boîtes… puis c’est le départ. La route à faire, le stand à monter, la mise en place… Il faut que tout soit beau, propre, accueillant… Sans oublier les fleurs fraîches… La période des fêtes est un moment pour les artistes, artisans de faire des sous afin, de pouvoir continuer à produire, continuer à créer… Comme vous l’aviez surement remarqué, l’an passé j’avais décidé de faire les 4 shows du promoteur MMPI. Les Ones of a Kinds show and sale… Première personne à faire les quatre… Et une femme… Oh yeah… L’itinéraire quoi que chargé était simple…. New York, Toronto, Chicago et Vancouver… J’ai fait les deux premiers, New York et Toronto… Puis la caisse pour Vancouver est partie de Toronto et le lendemain je prenais la route pour Chicago, avec une partie de l’inventaire… Papier en main… et le camion bien chargé. Arrivée aux douanes de Blue Water Bridge, Port Huron, Michigan… On me pause les questions d’usage et je remets mes papiers. Le douanier décide d’ouvrir la porte arrière du 4X4 un truc tombe, je sors du véhicule et le douanier en question me crie après : « Ma’am get back to your car »… Je suis resté tellement surprise qu’il à dû réitérer son ordre… « Ma’am get back to your car »… (toujours en vociférant). Faut dire qu’il avait la main sur son gun les jambes légèrement écarté qu’il me pointait de son autre main et qu’il n’avait pas l’air content du tout… Ben la Madame en question est rentrée gentiment dans son carrosse… Il a signalé un code machin, on m’a demandé de me ranger dans le truc d’inspection… J’ai remis mes clés d’auto et rentré dans le bâtiment pour les questions… Après avoir tenté d’expliqué que j’étais une artiste, que je m’en allais à un Art craft show… que la vente de la porcelaine que j’apportais passait par le promoteur que les taxes serait payé au gouvernement etc. Que je faisais une entrée informelle, car j’avais pour moins de 2000 $ de marchandise au prix coûtant… Rien à faire… La raison que l’on m’a donnée est : « Goods to be sold in U.S.A must have formal Entry »… Et voilà que la p’tite dame se fait retournée au Canada… Le lendemain matin… après plusieurs coups de téléphones… et un coup de main incroyable de plusieurs personnes… L’U.S. Department avait tout les papiers nécessaires pour traiter mon cas. J’ai attendu 3 jours une réponse du gouvernement… Le show à Chicago, battais son plein et fêtait son dixième anniversaire sans moi. Puis j’ai décidé de reprendre la route pour me rendre à Vancouver… J’ai perdu toute mes réservations d’hôtel, d’avion, mon stand à Chicago etc. J’ai traversé tout le Canada en 4 dodos… hé oui, un horaire de fou pour la conduite, j’ai dû rebrousser chemin vers Toronto, contourné les grands lacs… traversé les plaines, fait le hop and down dans les Rocheuses… Non, mais c’est grand le Canada…. Le savez-vous ? Je suis finalement arrivée la journée même du montage à Vancouver… Ma caisse de Toronto était là qui m’attendait et vous savez quoi… J’attends encore à ce jour une réponse de l’U.S. Department ! Non, mais pas facile, la vie d’artiste des fois… Hein…

As an artist’s life is not always easy… we prepare for months… some finishing touches, wraping, packing… and then, time to get going! The road ahead, the stand has to be put up, everything still has to be done. Has to be beautiful, clean and welcoming. The holidays are a great oportunity for artists to make money, to keep the production going. As you probably noticed, last year I decided to be part of the four shows of the MMPI promoter. The One of a Kind show and sale. I was the first to be part of all four of them. Even though the itinary was loaded, is was simple. New York, Toronto, Chicago and Vancouver. I’ve been through the first two, New York and Toronto, then I sent part of the inventory from Toronto to Vancouver and left for Chicago with what was left of it. Papers in hand, the truck well loaded, I arrived at the Blue Water Bridge customs, Huron Port in Michigan, as they ask the common questions, I handed out the papers. The customs agent opened the trunk and as he did, a thing fell off. I got out of the car and the agent yelled:  » Mam, get back to your car.  » I was so suprised that he had to ask a second time.  » Mam, get back into your car.  » (still ordering me). I must say that he had a hand on his gun, legs slightly apart, was pointing at me with other hand and did not look happy at all. Well, let’s just say that the Mam in question nicely got back into her car. He reported a code and then asked me to move over to the inspection building. I gave him my car keys and went in the building. I tried explaining that I was an artist, I was on my way to the Art Craft Show, that any selling of the porcelain I was bringing would be handled by the promoter and the taxes would get paid off to the governement, I was making an informal entry because I had less than 2k of merchandise at the selling price. Nothing would do…The reason they gave me was  » Goods to be sold in U.S.A. must have a formal entry.  » There I was, returned to Canada. Next morning, afler many phone calls and an the incredible help of many people. The U.S. departement had all the papers needed for my case. I waited 3 days for an answer. Then I decided to get back on the road to Vancouver. I lost all my hotel reservations, my plane reservations, the Chicago stand and so forth. I made my way accross Canada within 4 days, a hell crazy driving schedule, I had to turn back towards Toronto, go around the Great Lakes, through the flap landscapes, up and down through the rocky mountains. Did you know that Canada is humongous ? I finally arrived the show day at Vancouver. Toronto’s package was there, waiting for me and you know what ? As to this date, I am still waiting on the U.S. departement for an answer! An artist’s life is not quite easy sometimes…hein?!

Je serai à Vancouver pour la première fois.  À l’autre bout du Canada.  Grand pays que le Canada et mon dernier salon de Noël.  Après ce sera les vacances pour moi et je compte bien visiter votre belle ville.  Plongée sous marine en vue.  Et je serai dans le tout nouveau Convention Center.  Au plaisir de vous rencontrer.

I am back in Toronto for the second year in a row where I will participate in the One of A Kind show at the Direct Energy Center.  I will be there from the 25th to the 29th of November 2010 in the  Five First Day section.  Yes, this year my stay is a little shorter, but I made strainers for small fruits, vinegar bottles and salt boxes that you’ve requested previously, in a entire new oval design.  They come in different colours and in half oval shapes so that they can be mix and match for a fun and completely personalised look.  I have added a picture for you to see.  Also, I will have plenty of shooters or mini-vases especially made for you …

De retour à Toronto pour une deuxième année consécutive, je serai au Direct Energie Center pour le One of A Kind de Toronto dans la section (Five First Day)…  Hé oui, un peu plus court cette année, mais j’ai réalisé les produits que vous m’aviez demandé, soit la passoire pour petits fruits, des vinaigriers et des boîtes à sel…  Mais d’un style nouveau…  Ovales, bombés, que l’on peut séparer et dont on peut mixer les couvercles, ce qui donne un tout nouveau genre…  Je vous mets une photo…   Alors voilà…  Je serai à Toronto le 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 novembre 2010.  Et…  Oui, j’aurai de nouveau des shooters ou des mini-vases…  Juste pour vous…  Aux plaisirs de vous voir…  Emplacement: R-29
