Démarche artistique - Michelle Lauzé The act of creating means necessarily putting oneself outside; and I believe than any artistic research must be realized inside a personal context. You must achieve to be/to be born to yourself.

My pictorial research, as a matter of fact, has led me to explore, and later to learn ceramics. Il elaborating my paintings, I have eliminated any form of representation. I finally only kept very close surfaces, translucent and blurred. Overall surfaces, made of lines, like superposed veils. In order to better exploit the superpositions in the transparencies and the blends, I work with oil. As the pictorial surface, unfortunately, is always restricted, I had to admit that, even after having eliminated any form of representation on the painted surface, the very same surface becomes in any case the representation because it is circumscribed by a surface which differs from what it is surrounded by. There comes again the notion of container and content! In order to better surround container and content, I have therefore chosen to learn how to build a content. Trying to better surround the idea of the wall, the idea of the surface, the idea of shape, the idea of differentiation. This place of transition which is the lip between inside and outside. This thin stumbling line which allows container and content to exist, this line which marks and creates the tension.

You will notice that the gazing, which is covered at this place by being slightly set back underlines the demarcation of the shape through the color change; the glazing acts as a skin. The piece support is blank, without glazing, in order to offer this space where the finger touches the container material. There must be a deployment of energy in order to give a form.

I have made the choice to work ceramics via molding for three reasons: first in order to define the thickness of the wall, secondly for this ability which is offered by the molding to reproduce the pieces as identical as possible, in other words to have this possibility to rework on the same shape in variation and thirdly to restore its uniqueness to a series piece.

Succeeding, through being born to things, to put the universe inside of me in the outside reality. Not as a formal representation, but as a visible transcription of affect, of sensation, of emotion, everything with nuances and subtleness. The piece structure must be strong, the lines smooth and refined.

The true is in the indescribable, what can only be expressed with difficulty and not in what is expressed.
